DLA Piper advises peermusic on the acquisition of Arctic Rights Management
DLA Piper provided counsel to peermusic, the largest global independent music publishing and neighbouring rights company, in its strategic acquisition of Arctic Rights Management (ARM), Norway's leading independent music publisher.
This transaction secures peermusic’s publishing rights to an impressive catalog of over 5,000 recordings and compositions from ARM. Notably, the acquisition encompasses publishing rights to a collection of international hits, including the thrice GRAMMY-nominated "Don't Start Now" by Dua Lipa (via Caroline Ailin), Zedd and Katy Perry's "365" (also via Caroline Ailin), achieving Top 20 status in thirteen territories, and Norwegian DJ Alan Walker’s "Sing Me To Sleep" (via Magnus Bertelsen), a 6X Platinum success that topped charts in Norway and reached the Top 20 in the US Hot Dance/Electronic chart, among others.
This acquisition of ARM presents a distinctive opportunity for peermusic, with a global presence spanning 39 offices and 200+ employees, to expand its market influence into Norway, marking the addition of the 32nd country to its global footprint.
The DLA Piper team supporting peermusic in this transaction was led by partners Ketil Ramberg (IPT) and Sveinung Mjaugedal (Corporate/M&A), alongside partner Per Benonisen (Employment), lawyer Anniken Sjøvold (Employment), and associates Anja Hegerberg (Corporate/M&A) and Jonas Bergheim (IPT).
