Insurance

DLA Piper has one of Norway’s leading insurance and reinsurance practices. Our insurance group provides legal expertise and practical advice to insurers, reinsurers, captives and insureds as well as to brokers and other insurance intermediaries. We assist domestic and international clients in all areas of insurance law from developing policy wordings to handing claims and policy disputes. In addition, we regularly advise insurers and insurance intermediaries on regulatory issues, transactions and portfolio transfers. We also act for reinsurers in claims and disputes, advise on wordings, assist reinsurers in structuring reinsurance programmes and commutations, and advise on regulatory issues.

We know the insurance industry well and assist clients with a range of liability insurance matters including general business liability, professional liability, financial institutions professional indemnity (FIPI), D&O liability, liability in relation to the construction industry and product liability. We regularly advise insurers on financial institutions risks including fidelity, commercial crime, Bankers Blanket Bond and computer crime cover. We are also increasingly working with insurers on warranty & indemnity insurance matters.

We advise on claims and subrogated claims in relation to marine and transport insurance including transport, shipping and freight risks as well as P&I and hull insurance.

We have particular experience in relation to compliance, privacy and regulatory questions affecting the insurance industry.

Our insurance and liability practice group is made up of 12 lawyers with in-depth experience of insurance, reinsurance and liability matters. Our team includes lawyers who have rights of audience in the Supreme Court, dual qualification in various jurisdictions (England & Wales and Germany) or who have an MBA.
