DLA Piper advises peermusic on the acquisition of Arctic Rights Management
DLA Piper has advised peermusic, the world’s largest global independent music publishing and neighbouring rights company, on its strategic acquisition of Arctic Rights Management (ARM), the largest indie music publisher in Norway.
This deal secures peermusic publishing rights to over 5,000 recordings and compositions from ARM’s catalog. The acquisition notably encompasses publishing rights to a collection of international hits. These include the thrice GRAMMY-nominated "Don't Start Now" by Dua Lipa (via Caroline Ailin), Zedd and Katy Perry's "365" (also via Caroline Ailin), which achieved Top 20 status in thirteen territories, and Norwegian DJ Alan Walker’s "Sing Me To Sleep" (via Magnus Bertelsen), a 6X Platinum success that topped charts in Norway and reached the Top 20 in the US Hot Dance/Electronic chart, among many others.
The acquisition of Arctic Rights Management is a unique opportunity for peermusic, with 39 offices and 200+ employees worldwide, to grow their market presence in Norway, adding the 32nd operating country to their global footprint.
The DLA Piper team assisting peermusic in the transaction was led by partners Ketil Ramberg (IPT) and Sveinung Mjaugedal (Corporate/M&A). The team also included partner Per Benonisen (Employment), lawyer Anniken Sjøvold (Employment), and associates Anja Hegerberg (Corporate/M&A) and Jonas Bergheim (IPT).
